Head Coach
With a rich history as both a former player and a successful head coach, Matthen Thomas has enriched our athletic program 100%.
He led the Bulldogs Boy Soccer Team to three consecutive 1A Conference Championships in 2001-2003 with four straight Final Four Appearances, and a crowning achievement with the 2003 IA State Championship. Coach Thomas, with a great track record, left MCS to pursue his career and start a family.

Coach Thomas’s returned to MCS Bulldogs in 2024. His return has been nothing short of remarkable.
He guided the Bulldogs Girls Soccer Team to a 2A Conference Championship and a Final Four Appearance Championship in 2025 and 2026. He also celebrated his 100th Bulldog win in 2026 and celebrated with his team and family and was the highlight of the Florence Morning News.
Highlights: Varsity Boys Soccer Team (3 Consecutive 1A Conference Championships, 4 Straight Final Four Appearances, & 2003 A1 State Championship) 2000-2004, Varsity Girls Soccer Team 2025 & 2026 (2A Conference Championship & Final Four Appearance). 100th Bulldog WINS in 2026.

For the past twenty years, Coach Chad has been a pillar of the MCS community, dedicating his time and energy to shaping the lives of young athletes. His commitment to fostering endurance and perseverance is not just about winning games but about instilling lifelong values in his team members.
Under his guidance, the JV & Varsity Basketball Girls teams have not only achieved success in numerous tournaments and competitions but have also grown in character and resilience.
Coach Chad’s influence goes beyond the playing field, as he continues to inspire and mold the next generation through his unwavering dedication and passion for coaching.

Coach James
Head coach
Coach James is deeply connected to the MCS Bulldogs, having played on the same court where her athletes now compete. A graduate of MCS in 2000, she spent her high school years actively participating in sports. Although she pursued a Bachelor of Science in Business Management, her passion for coaching remained strong. Whenever the chance arose, she took on roles as an assistant and head coach at MCS. Notably, in 2004, she led the JV Girls Volleyball team to an undefeated season, a testament to her leadership and dedication.

Assistant Coach
Rebekah Chard, the assistant coach for the JV girl’s volleyball team, finds immense joy in her role. Her journey with MCS began in 2021 when she started teaching fifth grade, and her natural affinity for coaching made her an ideal addition to the team. Together with Coach James, they led their girls to an undefeated season, culminating in a conference title. As they look forward to the 2025 JV girls’ volleyball season, both coaches are filled with enthusiasm and anticipation for what lies ahead.

Coach Rodney
Head coach
Coach Rodney has been the coach for the MCS TRAP team for over ten years. He impact on the program has been nothing short of remarkable. Under the leadership, the team has grown in skill, discipline, and sportsmanship. As a skilled marksman, Coach Rodney led the team to a 2nd place team award at the 2024 State Competition. The MCS Trap athletes have placed individual 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in the State Tournament in 2022, 2023, and 2024.
Coach Rodney is very knowledgeable and patient with his team and is always going the extra mile to make sure safety is always a priority.
