Performing Arts
Performing arts is the vocal and instrumental performances of music. Stage drama, poetry, and other types of expression that are performed Infront of a live audience are other types of performing arts. As Christians, the arts present extraordinary opportunities to point peers and audiences to Jesus. (Psalm 95:1-2 KJV)
Colossians 3:16 KJV says, “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.”

From grades K3-12th grade, our students have a large opportunity to participate in choral, choir, trio’s, duets, and more.
Visual Arts
The visual arts are art forms such as painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, ceramics, photography, video, filmmaking, design, crafts, and architecture.
The Bible contains several verses about art. In Isaiah 64:8, God is referred to as a potter and humans as the clay. Exodus 35:35 mentions people who are filled with wisdom to work all manner of work, including engraving, embroidery, weaving, and other forms of art. No matter the task, we are to use it for the glory of God.

MCS High School Art Elective
One of the electives that our high school students can choose from is the creative crafts program. Mrs. Jessica always comes up with interesting projects that are not only fun to make but helps students learn to be more creative, patient, and expands their comfort zone which helps them explore in new areas of the arts.
MCS Visual Arts & Photography
Paint is an essential medium in art, used by artists to create a wide range of visual effects and styles. Acrylic, encaustic, gouache, pastel, oil, are some of the types of paint that is used for this program. Students are taught the difference between each paint and how to use them to their true potential. Texture, color, solubility, and viscosity is also taught. By understanding the characteristics and limitations of different types of paint, artists can make informed decisions about which paints are best suited for their needs and goals.
Drawing is a visual art that uses an instrument to mark paper or another two-dimensional surface. The instrument might be pencils, crayons, pens with inks, charcoal art or combinations of these, and in more modern times, computer styluses with graphics tablets. These projects are used for the SACS High School Visual Arts competition. We look forward to seeing what our students will design for the 2024 SACS in March. Graphic design is also a newly added program.
Photography can tell a story, it can capture a moment in time, it can document, and it can be art. There are many technical uses for photography as well as social and creative ones. Students use their abilities to photography for our yearly yearbook, art gallery, and for the SACS competition.
